As the country laments over her bad educational state,
students have however turned deaf ears as they attach themselves with social
medias, there by compounding the challenges revolving around the educational
sector, as well as abusing this era of digitalization.
BY AKOH GODDAY.
The struggle by the Government to organise the educational
sector which has not been found faultless has been on for so long as some
students abuse the use of social medias in this century. As the saying goes
that "for every good thing, there is a disadvantage if not
disadvantages". The emergence of social medias in this century has placed
several questions on the lips of many, doubting if the social medias have been
a blessing to this age.
A huge bridge of confusion
and pandemonium have however aroused as
a result of the bantered corses which cannot be compared to the blessings attached to the impacts of social media on
Nigerian youths and Education as a paramount, and an inevitable sector in the country.
As some students, teachers, not excluding lecturers make good
use of the internet and other related social medias to get informed and
updated, some students have also chosen the otherwise as death lingers due to
the negative impact and Nemesis of the internet and social medias on youths in
this century.
The emergence of Internet-based social media has made it
possible for one person to communicate with hundreds or even thousands of other
people at the same time. The internet and social media have also made it
possible for students to carry out various assignments online without much
stress.
The internet, which
provides a constant source of information, and can be accessed from most
smart phones, computers and laptops these days has gone far to "distort
productivity as the time spent online could
be highly productive, addiction to internet usage can interfere with work,
daily life and even " relationships".
Seeking opinion on the issue of social addiction as a
problem, Oyedipe Philips, an online user aggrieved to the rate at which lives
have being lost all due to social addiction.
“ our youths are too careless such that they don’t know when
to use phone, some actually use phones on highways while trecking, not
considering the implications”.

The use of the internet globally has become so addictive such
that people can hardly do without it.
Meanwhile the positive effects cannot be overemphasized, as
the use is becoming a problem as addicts report, such as the negative
consequences from their uses.
The internet and social media have also gone a long way to
improve students' approaches to assignments, school projects as well as their
communication skills respectively. The modernisation of the internet into phone
is not left behind as well, as it has " impacted" into so many youths
by making them get addicted to the interne through their phones though it's
addiction could be worse than drug addiction.

Anecdotal reports have also indicated that some on-line users
were becoming addicted to the Internet in much the same way that others became
addicted to drugs or alcohol, which resulted in academic, social, and
occupational impairment.
In an exclusive interview with an online user, Ifeodun
Bamidele asserts to the fact that there is nothing impossible for him using his phone and that he is addicted to his mobile phone
as a result of the internet facilities attached to the phone.
As the internet affects people positively, so it does
negatively as death tolls rises on a daily basis due to the uses of phones,
charting with friends on roads and streets unconsciously while using the road
which amounts to several accidents on highways and streets. Not excluding the
rate at which cyber crime increases on a daily basis which cannot be compared
to the past. Meanwhile, research among
sociologists, psychologists, or psychiatrists has not formally identified the addictive
use of the Internet as a problematic behavior.
