GTB LOCKS OUT CUSTOMERS

The Guaranty Trust Bank, Aguda Ogba branch, today June 30,2014 by 3pm denied customers access into the banking hall for transactions.
A customer of the bank who claimed anonymous said that a hint from one of the bankers indicated that the branch staffs were tired and that they have attended to a lot of customers since 8am. According to the customer, “Why would this bank continue to open accounts for customers since they cannot cater for their numerous customers?” Customers have shown their grievances by complaining that it was an unusual practice for bank to close service to their customers and clients at about 3pm. Effort to reach the branch manager for information on why the bank closed service early was fruitless as every door into the banking hall was locked with security men trying to manage the crowd. In a conversation with one of the staff of the bank said that the bank had closed even by 3pm on Monday. BY: AKOH GODDAY

GTB LOCKS OUT CUSTOMERS

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has received with dismay and consternation reports of yesterday’s attacks by Boko Haram on churches in villages near Chibok, Borno State.
The President deplores the renewed targeting by Boko Haram of adherents of a particular religion and urges all lovers of peace and unity to wholly condemn the resurgence of efforts by agents of global terrorism to disunite and destabilize Nigeria by callously instigating violence among religious groups in the country. President Jonathan shares the view of the most learned Islamic leaders and scholars that no true Muslim will resort to the mindless killing of innocent people at any time, especially not during the holy month of Ramadan, to redress any perceived grievance. The President believes, therefore, that Sunday’s attacks on churches and other similar atrocities by Boko Haram are conclusive proof, if any is still needed, that its leaders and members are thoroughly misguided persons who are only using religion as a cover for their reprehensible crimes against their countrymen and women. President Jonathan urges all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious beliefs, to resist this new attempt to undermine the nation’s firm and collective resolve to unite in full support of its armed forces and security agencies against the vicious perpetrators of brutal attacks on innocent citizens. The President assures all Nigerians once again that the Federal Government and national security agencies will continue to intensify ongoing efforts to end Boko Haram’s senseless attacks until the terrorists are routed and totally defeated. He commiserates with the families and churches that lost loved ones, members and places of worship during Sunday’s attacks. REUBEN ABATI Special Adviser to the President SOURCE: LindaIkeji

NIJ STUDENT DECLARED MISSING

A female National Diploma1 student of Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Deborah Abidemi Adedeji has been declared missing for over three days.
Adedeji, who did not start the second semester examination with her colleagues, has been said to have absconded from home since Thursday last week. It was gathered from some of her friends that Adedeji was pregnant, but according to her mother, Mrs Adedeji, who visited the Institute campus in Ogba yesterday said it might be as a result of her first semester results in which she performed below expectations, that she is not pregnant. "She is not pregnant and if she is, that does not give room for her to run away, but i suspect that it might be as a result of last semester results, which she performed below expectations" the mother said in Yoruba. Having earlier linked her absence from home to a full-time student colleague, Onotanemere John, that he usually take her out to church vigils and programmes, Onotanemere, in a quick reaction denied it, saying "I just know her in the class and we don't talk, talk less of taking her out, moreover I always go home every weekend, so that does not give me chance to leave the confines of the school on weekdays". However, hands are still on deck to know the whereabouts of Deborah, as the case have been reported to the Management of the Institute. But it is not clear whether the parent has reported the case to the appropriate security agent.
